ALAN M. NELSON,
Attorney of counsel
A former State and Federal Prosecutor, Mr. Nelson specializes in Federal Criminal and Administrative matters including Grand Jury and regulatory agency investigations, trial and Appellate proceedings. Additionally, Mr. Nelson serves as outside counsel to a wide range of law enforcement benevolent associations in criminally-related; administrative disciplinary; and defense of civil rights claims.
Mr. Nelson was born in Manhattan, New York on February 20, 1954. He attended Boston University where he received his B.A. in Political Science and History magna cum laude and New England School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude in, 1979.
Prior to becoming counsel to Solomon, Richman P.C., Mr. Nelson was a partner in Garber, Klein and Nelson from 1988-1999. Mr. Nelson headed the firm’s federal litigation department, representing a varied array of corporate, law enforcement union and individual clients in securities, anti-trust, tax and civil rights matters.
Mr. Nelson commenced his career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the N.Y.C. Law Department (1979-1970); moved to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office (1980-1984); and after serving as an associate in the firm of Barry, McTiernan and Moore, New York, NY (1984-1986), was cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (between 1987-1988) to investigate allegations of public corruption.
Mr. Nelson is a member of the New York bar. Admitted to practice before U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern District of New York, and Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Nelson has served as a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel of Attorneys for both the Southern and Eastern District of New York since 1991.
